Aragsan: A Game-Changing Mung Bean Variety for Somali Farmers

We are delighted to share a momentous development in the agricultural landscape of Somalia, particularly for farmers dedicated to the cultivation of Mung bean. In a collaborative effort between the Somali Agricultural Technology Group (SATG) and its affiliated organization, Filsan, a ground-breaking achievement has been realized with the identification of a novel Mung bean variety named Aragsan.

Aragsan distinguishes itself as a determinate variety, exhibiting a remarkable maturation period of 60 days from planting to harvesting. This distinct characteristic not only accelerates the production cycle but also acts as mitigation measure against the recurrent drought and climate change.

Furthermore, the Aragsan showcases exceptional yield and quality, positioning it as a promising asset for farmers seeking improved outcomes in their harvests. One noteworthy attribute of Aragsan is its enlarged seed size, coupled with an alluring shiny green seed coloration, providing both aesthetic appeal and increased market desirability.

Unlike maize, Aragsan is a green legume renowned for its nutritional richness, boasting a protein content ranging from 22% to 24%. Beyond its protein content, Aragsan offers a spectrum of essential nutrients, further contributing to its significance as a wholesome dietary component.
